the Indian knowledge of the breathing process

the swar vigyan is the knwoledge of the breathing process . this also gives ideas how the energies of the body work through the process of breathing.

the swar means the process of breathing air from either or both nostrils.

we normally do not breathe from both nostrils. if you just put your hand or palm upside down beneathe the nostrils you will come to know that you are breathing through one of the nostrils. at one time you breathe through one nostril.

the left side of the nostril breathe is called chandra swar or the moon voice.

the right side of the nostril breathe is called the surya swar or the sun voice.

it is believed that the chandra swar is the cool breathing and the surya swar is hot breathing effect on the body.

when hard work is required from the body and body requires heat it breathes through the surya swar . it is the opposite with the chandra swar.

when the body breathes through both the nostrils it is a danger signal from the body. normally at the time of the death body breathes through both nostrils or at the time of the enlightenment called the samadhi in yoga. this breathing is called sushumna. (the deep somber)

the swar changes normally within one and half hour to maintain temperature of the body.

swar vigyan concentrates on the control and effects of the swar on the body and tries to manage it through properly maintaining swaras.

Hi,

Thanks for publishing on unique topic. Swar Bigyan is also used for predictions.

Jain monks Srimad Devchand, Chidananda and Buddhisagar suri have written a lot about Swar Bigyan.

Thanks,

second chapter of the swar vigyan

then the swar vigyan discusses about the length and speed of the breathing.

it is believed that the animals with speed and movements breathe faster and live for a short life span. and the animals with slow speed and movements breathe slow and longer and live for a longer life span. the classic example is given by the rabit and the turtle.

it is believed that the same applies for the human. only thing is human has flexibility to change their breathing pattern. the human can control their breathing.

when you run , when you are excited , when you are angry, when you are frightened and in similar conditions when you are challenged you breathe faster and shallow .

when you are amused, relaxed , with calm mindset and in comfortable state of mind , you breathe slow and deep.

the depth of the swar is calculated through two processes.

inside process. normally when you take birth you breathe from your stomach navel breathing. then after you are extrovertly involved and emotions start affecting your breathing it start chaning.  you can count the deep breathing from the chakras of the body . the muladhar chakra breathing is the deepest and goes upto the end of vertebra. the shallowest breathing is upto the agya chakra or the nasal tract upto the ENT joint.

outside process you can put your palm before the nostrils and find out upto which place of the body you are breathing. classically it is majored in angul that means the knuckles.

deep , slow and measured even breathe is expected for good health.

    various aspects of the swaras

the swar also guide you in what conditions how you should breathe.

when you are doing hard work or the work that you require effort. like

running, thinking on outside decisions , bathing, excreting , excersizing, playing outside games etc you should breathe by the surya swar the right nostril.

when you are resting or doing something that requires concentration and calm posture of your body and mind like sleeping , sitting, reading book, prayers you should resort to chandra swar that is breathing through your left nostril.

swar can be used to change your mood , small diseases like cold etc , anger .

just when you are feeling angry find out which swar you are breathing through change the swar you will find that you are automatically calm and thinking reasonably.

similarly if you are feeling cold , try to breathe from your surya swar you will find that cold feeling is gone.

    changing swar

usually the breathing is from one nostril. you can change the breathing swar and change the conditions of the body and mind accordingly.

find out the swar you are breathing through lets say surya swar . now if you want to change it to chandra swar. just lie down on the side of the right side . you will automatically change it to chandra swar after a while. you can do it by closing your nostril and breathing from another also.
